8 Awesome Pit Bull Names For Your Cool Boy or Cute Girl Puppy

Pit bulls are not a true breed but are in fact a result of the crossbreeding of Bulldogs and Terriers. Physically, they are big, short coated dogs with a wide range of possible fur color. They may be pure black, pure white, grey, spotted, dark brown, golden brown etc. Although over the years these dogs have been given a bad reputation because they were initially made to be killing machines, pit bulls are in fact very affectionate, loyal and protective dogs, and in the right hands, they may be as soft as a new born baby.

Because of their size and physical appearances, many pit bull owners tend to give their dogs terrifying names such as Beast and Killer. Although every dog owner has their own bonds with their pet, we believe that names go deeper than the physical appearance. It is a tag all of us carry throughout our lives, and since the dog won’t be able to change it if he or she does not like the name, you will do right by them by giving them a name that will still be as special years down the line.

Here are 8 pit bull names, 4 for each sex, that we think would be great for your cute boy or girl puppy pit bull:

Male pit bull names

  1. Klaus

From its spelling, to the way it is pronounced, Klaus is nothing short of a beautiful name. It is also very masculine and demands respect, just like your cute yet strong boy pit bull. Klaus, originally Nicklaus, is the medieval short form version of the more common Nicholas. However it is still very actively used in some cultures such as the German, Dutch and Scandinavian.

The name is believed to mean intelligent, outgoing and one that would give themselves for the greater good! Wouldn’t you want your new pit bull pup to live up to these celebrated traits? An advantage of the name Klaus is that it is so unique, you would probably be the only one with a dog named Klaus in your whole block.

  1. King

Who wouldn’t want a dog named King? King is strong, special, loved and cherished. King is also very responsible. He does things with discipline and devotion and he is just a good boy. Until he feels like being a spoilt puppy and he runs up and around the house with uncontained energy, eventually settling when he find a shoe to chew on.

King is a nice name because not only is it masculine, it is also a universal name and so if you happen to have pen pals in the opposite side of the globe, if you do mention that you got a dog named King, the weight of the name will remain as significant. King also loves a lot of attention so be careful, he just might refuse to live your side.

  1. Leo

Leo has to be one of the best names to give a dog, a pit bull for that matter. Leo is one of the twelve zodiac signs depicted by a lion. As it is well known, lions are the Kings of the wild. They are a proud lot. But aside from that, they are very responsible, resourceful and are able to take care of themselves.

Leo can be a great pit bull name for your boy, especially if you notice he likes going out and enjoying nature. If he is quick at getting instructions and so smart that he seems to figure out things that his peers may not be able to. He may also be very kind, always ready to help with the little things and seems to enjoy being the center of attention.

  1. Jet

Jet is yet another fascinating name for your boy pit bull. If you are the outgoing types of people and you have taken your new puppy to the park on several occasions and you have noticed that he is all the time shooting out of his leash, finding squirrels to chase, or balls to catch, then Jet would be the perfect fit.

Just like the Jet machine, your dog may be fast, enjoys being on the move, spontaneous and full of energy at most times. Jet can also be big yet agile. Jet may even enjoy giving your children back rides but only if it does not hurt or stress him out. If he is blue, grey or white, then you may just have hit the jackpot.

Female pit bull names

  1. Ash

Ash can be the short form of Ashley. Ash may also be a name on its own. Although a unisex name, Ash can be given to a cute pit bull girl, especially if she happens to have a greyish, ash like coat. The name Ash is short and sure. It paints a picture of a gentle yet strong girl. One who is independent but would still want to be spoilt and pampered.

In Hebrew culture, Ash means happy whereas in Egyptian folklore, Ash was the name of a desert god. So if your baby is a happy little puppy, with a smile always on her face, yet still able to take charge of herself, she would look very nice wearing the name Ash.

  1. Misty

Misty is a mysterious name. It can mean a lot of things. It may mean light, calm, relaxed or spontaneous. It may also mean creative, kind, deep and sensitive. If your girl puppy seems to have these qualities then maybe Misty is the name to give her.

Other characters that she may carry include excitement or a light and happy mood, the love for an adventure, may be shy at first but once she gets familiar she lets herself go completely. She may also be very friendly and welcoming. However Misty’s can be quite rebellious because of their strong will to be their own dog. Nothing some treats, training and belly rubs won’t cure.

  1. Willow

Willow is yet another deep, mysterious yet painfully beautiful name. Willow comes from the sound tree leaves make when wind is passing through them. The sound that sounds almost like whistling.

Characteristics that are associated with this name include calm, gentle, highly intelligent, caring and to top it all off, wise. Yes, Willows are usually wise people, and in this case, dogs. If your girl puppy is able to make decisions or choices that most dogs may not, such as know when to just lay still and cuddle you instead of jumping up and down licking your whole face when you have had long day, then just might be a Willow.

  1. Winter

Yet another catchy, heartwarming name. You may choose the name Winter for your cute pit bull girl puppy for several reasons. First and perhaps most obvious reason being that she was born or adopted during the Winter season. Giving new born babies names according to their birth seasons is a common practice all over the world, and most times, babies grow up having special connections to these seasons.

Another reason you may choose pit bull names like Winter, is if she has a white or grey coat like snow or the grey clouds that are predominant during this season. She may also have character traits including independence, strong will, bold and one who enjoys attention.
