320 Dachshund Names That Match Your Dogs Sausage Look

Popularly known as the Wiener dog because of its unusual shape, the Dachshund is purebred dog that has recently been climbing up the list of popular pet pups worldwide. Ranked number 13th as one of the most popular dogs in the United States, the Dachshund is well known and well loved, and have entered many homes as a chosen pet for both small and large families. These purebred pups come from a history of hard work, with their miniature counterparts being used for hunting small prey such as rabbits, and their standard breed being used as a tracker for wounded deer. These dogs have now risen past these previous job descriptions, and have moved up to being household pets, performers and competitors. If a Dachshund is on your list as a prospective pup, here are a couple tips that should help. If you are looking for Dachshund names that will fit your new puppy, I will help you find that too.

Tips for New Dachshund Owners

  • Know what to expect – One of the major issues many dog owners have is that they do not what to expect due to lack of research on the specific dog breed, which leaves them in shock when they get their new pup. Dachshunds are generally very playful little dogs, but one factor that may be unknown is that they tend to chase small animals. Because of their history as a working dog, this ability is almost innate to them, and may be very difficult to break. If you have small animals around your house such as a rabbit or bird, a Dachshund may not be ideal for you, If you are insistent on this type of dog however, ensure that you get him as a pup, and train him as he grows.
  • They can be very stubborn – Dachshunds are very intelligent pups that enjoy spending time with their owners, but they are also very stubborn creatures. Though they are rated as being likely to obey trained commands 50% of the time or more, they generally have a mind of their own and will take a while to adjust to you telling them what to do. They also enjoy spending lots of time with their owners, making them miserable when their owners re gone for too long. If left alone for too long, Dachshunds are prone to separation anxiety, which can lead to them destroying the household to relieve their boredom. They are very loyal and loving creatures that require consistent time and attention.
  • They are not generally friendly dogs – For the most part, Dachshunds tend to only get along with their owners and the people in their household, but are generally very standoffish and sometimes even rude to strangers. They do not like unfamiliar people, and can be found growling and in many cases barking at any intruder they encounter. They are very small in size but very defensive as well, and are sure to bark loudly and sometimes even bite when there is an intruder or stranger in their midst.

This little Wiener dog is way more than he’s cut out to be isn’t he? Dachshunds are great pups to have, and if you have just joined the Weiner mom life, you may need a name for your pup. Ultimately, the choice is yours, but here are a few Dachshund names to get the ball rolling.
